Never Before Offered U/W Hunting Courses for HSA Divers

World class diving, unique classes and adventures found nowhere else.

Professional HSA certified staff includes two PADI Master Instructors, focused on making your diving experience exciting and rewarding. HSA’s exacting standards for training and safety is the core of all our programs. Disabled does not mean that you cannot enjoy the underwater world to its fullest extent. Paraplegia, amputation, blindness, and even quadriplegia are not barriers to enjoying the underwater world. The thrill and the challenge is the same for everyone whether you enjoy taking pictures, bringing home a fresh lobster dinner, or just drifting along the beautiful reefs and sightseeing. Our unique U/W Hunting courses are developed for HSA divers and offered exclusively through ScubaWorks.

All courses are taught with the HSA diver as the central focus and include:

Open Water Certification
Advanced Open Water Certification
The Dive Buddy Program
HSA Instructor Training Course
DPV (U/W Scooter) Course
Videographer and Photo Course
Underwater Hunting Courses – Basic & Advanced
Lobster Hunting Course
Seafood CPPC Course (cleaning, preparing, preserving, & cooking)

Open Water Course:  $950

Performance based, not time based. You will proceed from simple to more complex skills at your own pace. The need for supervision and support will depend on your comfort level in the water and how your disability affects your ability to perform the physical requirements for the course. It is designed to accommodate a wide range of disabilities while at the same time training you to perform the necessary basic diving skills to the best of your abilities. Extra sessions may be necessary, depending on the student and his abilities. Students 10 – 14 can qualify for the HSA Jr. Open Water course while those 15 and older will qualify for the Open Water course.

At the completion of training, your diving skill level will be based on your ability to rescue another diver:

An “A” Level diver will be certified to dive with one other person.
A “B” Level diver must dive with two divers.
A “C” Level diver must dive with two divers and one must be trained in diver rescue.

A valid dive medical certificate must be provided prior to the beginning of the class. You will need the PADI Open Water Crew-Pak with DVD and log book. Each student is required to have or buy at the beginning of the course their own mask, snorkel and fins. Wetsuit, BCD, regulator, weights and safety sausage are provided. Any custom equipment is the responsibility of the student, but we will help you to find what you need.

Successful completion of the Open Water Course can qualify you for the Advanced Open Water Course.

Advanced Open Water Course:  $750

The Advanced Open Water Course builds your skills and confidence far beyond the Open Water Diver level. During this course you will begin to become “outwardly focused” and your awareness and appreciation of the underwater work will be greatly enhanced. You should be proficient in the necessary HAS skills for your level of certification such as air sharing and basic lifesaving.

The course consists of one lecture and 5 open water dives. Each dive will focus on a different aspect of diving and will introduce you to a different and exciting way to dive such as Drift Diving, Boat Diving, Marine Life Identification, Night Diving, U/W Hunter, Navigation Diving, and more. This is the course that cements your friendship with the ocean and builds the foundation for future diving adventures.

You will need to be Open Water Diver certified and have your own mask, snorkel, and fins and safety “sausage”. You will also need your own dive light and U/W writing slate. Wetsuit, BDC, Regulator, weights are provided.

HSA Open Water Dive Buddy Course:

The Dive Buddy Course prepares certified divers to safely and effectively assist, travel and dive with divers with disabilities. This is the course for certified divers who wish to understand more about physical disabilities and diving.

You will need proof of Open Water Diver certification or equivalent with a minimum of 20 logged dives within the last 24 months and minimum rescue skills and air sharing skills. You must be 18 years old and complete a diving medical statement.

The course consists of 6 hours of classroom lecture, 6 hours of pool training, and 6 open water dives.

HSA Instructor Training Course:  $350

This three day course provides the intensive theory, confined water, and open water training for certified instructors with recognized diving organizations to become HAS Instructors. Through insightful medical information, the experience of the staff, and hands on role playing instructors will experience the challenges of being a disabled diver and how to deal with these challenges in the open water environment.

DISABLED DIVER

UNDERWATER HUNTER COURSES

SCUBAWORKS dive shop, working closely with HSA (Handicapped Scuba Association) is now offering the FIRST of their kind in UNDERWATER HUNTING COURSES for disabled divers. These specialized courses were designed by a PADI Course Director & Master Instructor working closely with the SharkTales Spearfishing Team, the premier spearfishing team in the state of Florida, winners of the 2007 Treasure Coast Shootout spearfishing competition and the 2008 Spear Wars Blue Storm Tournament Series. The SharkTales Team has many years of experience and the trophies to back their reputation.

Until now the exciting and rewarding world of underwater hunting has been mostly closed to certified divers with disabilities. That has now changed in innovative and exciting ways. The courses have been designed to open up the world of U/W hunting so that the challenge, excitement, and rewards of this amazing segment of the diving world are available to any diver who has the desire to learn.

These PADI Specialty Courses give you an excellent introduction to the various aspects of underwater hunting. Each course includes both theory sessions and open water dives where you will practice and become proficient at the skills you will learn in the classroom.

DPV (Scooter) Course $199

This is the first step in the foundation to becoming an excellent underwater hunter. Underwater scooters (DPV’s) greatly increase your mobility, range, and freedom underwater. With the knowledge and training provided by this course you will significantly increase your chances of becoming successful as a hunter. Open Water certification a prerequisite.

Spearfishing Basic Course $179

General wisdom states that 10% of the hunters get 90% of the fish & lobster. Our goal is to give you the basic hunting skills you will need to become part of that “10%”.  Learn the basics of spearfishing and spearfishing safety with the experts. Skills such as how to choose the proper gun, loading and aiming techniques, spearfishing safety, basic shooting techniques, edible fish identification, basic hunting & stalking skills, and much more are taught in this course. DPV Hunting Course is a prerequisite for this course.

Spearfishing Advanced Course $179

This course begins where the Basic course finishes. It adds important skills and knowledge that were not taught during the Basic course and is designed to greatly improve your hunting skills and knowledge. This is where you learn to hunt the big fish.

Video & Photography for Hunting $199

A unique and one of a kind course that teaches you how to mount a camera or video unit onto your speargun so that you can take hands free, “real time” video while hunting. Now it’s possible to preserve those incredible moments that no one will ever believe. That “really big one” will never get away again. This course includes an introduction to U/W Photography as well as teaching you how to mount your camera on your speargun and how to use it for maximum effect.

Lobster Hunting Course $99

Bringing home your limit of lobster each day is nowhere as easy as it may look. This course is designed by some of the best lobster hunters in Florida.  You will learn the most successful hunting techniques that will give you the best chance to “bring home the bugs”. This is a must for anyone who wants to be successful at lobster hunting.

Seafood CPPC Course $75
(Cleaning, preparing, preserving, and cooking)

Shooting fish and  catching lobster is only  the beginning. It is vital that you learn the different ways to clean your catch in the most efficient ways. Once cleaned, we will teach you many of the best ways to prepare your seafood for storage or for cooking in the near future. Want to preserve your lobster for a long period of time? This course will show you ways to keep your seafood “like new” for months at a time. Course includes seafood cook out.

Please call the shop at 561-575-DIVE (3483) if you would like to learn any of these specialty courses.
